Have you ever felt obliged to pick a new holiday destination, just because you didn’t enjoy your last location? It happens quite often doesn’t it you experience a problem and then try to work out a way to prevent it happening again. The solution may not be ideal, easy to provide or even cost effective, but it will be worth it, should the same problem look like arising again.
Take for example the multi-million pound roof built for the centre court at Wimbledon. Since it was built as part of a massive re-fit, the rainy weather it was aimed to bypass has barely been seen during the championships. The new roof has barely been required. Another weather-related example is the insistence of specifying air-conditioning in new cars. In this country, years with week after week of hot summer weather are a rare occurence, in fact I think the last one was 7 years ago, but few would order a car without air-con, something that is is really only needed for 2 weeks of each year.
Although the price of foreign holidays has crept up compared to holidaying at home over recent years, a continuous run of poor summer weather looks like it has finally persuaded those who like sunshine during their annual break to head abroad again this year. The hotels, holiday cottages and campsites that have been fully booked and were turning people away last year, may discover that numbers are down this summer and through no fault of their own.
